Introduction of the Association of Engineering Technology – SST

SST activities

Association of Engineering technology – the special interest group (formerly Association of Manufacturers and Suppliers of Engineering Technique – the special interest group) was established on 22nd of June 1990. 21 organizations from the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic, which were engaged in manufacturing, research and sale of machine tools were the founder members. Among these organizations were the bearers of famous marks as TOS, MAS, ZPS, Šmeral etc.

The special reasons for establishment were to support and to protect common member companies’ interests and coordination of their activities in all fields, where the common solution and cooperation for entrepreneurial intents realization are useful. 44 important organizations from the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic are the members of the Association this time. Association members established in the Czech Republic produce more than 80% of machine tool production. Production of another products as woodworking machines, pressure die casting machines, hydraulic equipment, chip conveyers, ball screws and nuts, blowers, motors, tools and measuring instruments is very important as well. The main activity of SST is image increasing of its members and their products.

Association tasks

to give to Czech and Slovak machine tool industry (CPOTS) the set of the new measures which help with the activities of the industry and in the same time respect the interests of individual companies;
to support the cooperation of member companies with political, scientific and administrative structures;
to keep and develop the sum of knowledge in this branch and help so to keep the position of the Czech Republic in the global machine tool market;
to support the member companies in their approach to the global technical development and global marketing, the result of which is the support of their production activities development.

Association vision

SST is the only one and main representative of common interests and priorities of machine tool industry;
SST gains and enforces the common priorities to keep and improve the branch position in technology innovations and development;
SST enforces and supports the development of technical education, especially in the field of machinery and electrical engineering within the complete range , it means the education in apprentice centres, secondary schools, universities and scientific centres;
SST is co-organizer of International Fair of Machine Tools (IMT Brno) and guarantees its increasing technical level in the centre of Europe.

Main strategy aims

Support of the scientific-technology development

to define the common technical development scope especially in the field of basic research;
to spread the research results utilization inclusive of results publication,
to cooperate in gaining of common public financial sources and to define the distribution criteria;
to take the part in establishment of the Research Centre of Metal Forming Machines as an independent department of West Czech University;
to create and manage the association financial fund for above mentioned aims financing; economic activities of Association, contributions from association members within the frame of association budget and possible gifts will be the sources of this fund;
to cooperate in establishment and following activities of the Technology Machinery Platform with the aim to be the leader of this platform and to provide the connection with the European program “Manufuture”;
to cooperate in the field of standards preparation and revisions according to the needs of member companies.

Connection of the member companies with EU and state development programs

to specify expressively the possibilities of EU programs, especially programs for technical base development, products development and labour means development;
to coordinate the preparation of grant programs with the aim to utilize in the effective way the type programs across all regions;
to concentrate and classify information about EU funds with the aim of utilization by single companies;
to support organization and administrative activities for obtaining EU and state grants;
to create the borrowing guarantee association fund for temporal financing of single projects; economic activities and possible gifts or loans will be the sources of this fund;
to join the European program “Manufuture”.

Support of technical education and bring up new technical generation

to publicize and create the social environment for restoration of the Czech and Slovak machinery engineering and the branch of machine tools, which is its spine; to utilize all medial means;
to support the development of technical secondary and apprentice schools especially in the field of machinery and electrotechnics by means of various presentation, competitive and subsidy activities;
to cooperate with technical universities in the field of professional profile of graduates and contents of the special education; to join actively the planned reform of technical universities organization and support and ensure the participation of the association members in the Boards of Directors of technical universities;
to discuss with government and public organization the problem of schools in the field of mechanical engineering technology and enforce the branch interests;
to join the human resources development programs;
to coordinate and provide the education workshops.

Implementary strategic aims

To defend political-economic interests of association members

to obtain information on prepared legislative amendments and inform association members; to transmit the association members comments on the documents to their makers;
to convince the legislators and state and public offices of the necessity to realize our common positions;
to organize explanation campaigns on interpretation of some standards implemented in companies (especially the standards concerning taxes, accounting and some others);
to join other subjects (Association of Industry, Association of Exporters, Economy Chamber and other ones);

To provide the external presentation and propagation of association members

to cooperate in the realization of fairs IMT and MSV Brno including connected programs – s main propagation platform of association members;
to cooperate in participation of association members in EMO fairs organized by CECIMO, where is the opportunity to introduce new modern machine tools;
to organize the participation of member companies in the fairs and exhibitions in selected territories including state financial support ensuring;
to edit information pamphlets about member companies;
to edit product catalogues and presentation documents about member companies;
to cooperate with medias, especially with technical and economic magazines, radio and television;
to ensure the association members’ interests in cooperation with CECIMO and another CECIMO national organizations;
to ensure association members’ interests and propagation abroad – especially with national associations (Japan, China, USA, Korea and others);
to provide the collection and evaluation of statistical data in the machine tool branch not only in inland, but in Europe and another world territories;
to edit the annual reports of the branch and in future prepare for edition information every three months including annual presumptions;
to edit SST magazine with the aim to reduce the edition intervals and to provide the short edition for the Association web sites;
to collect and evaluate presumptions in the branch of machine tools;
to provide translations including comments on marketing studies prepared by the world associations;
to prepare economic papers of countries from a point of view of supplies of mechanical engineering technologies from association members;
to provide actual information on SST by means of sustained revision of web sites;
to provide the informative database of the Association.
